Donn B. Murphy One Acts Festival

indy691

From Nov. 14-18, Georgetown’s Mask and Bauble Dramatic Society will be hosting its annual Donn B. Murphy One Acts Festival (DBMOAF) in Poulton Hall. This event celebrates student-written work, allowing student writers, directors, and producers to express their own creative ideas. An expression of the student body’s passions and convictions, DBMOAF is an experience that is unique to Georgetown. This year, it will be headlined by Devika Ranjan’s (COL ’17) own one-act play, Roots. The play follows Richa, a young Indian woman, who moves into a wealthy area and becomes involved with a group of local mothers. “Ranjan explores themes of tradition, culture, and social change,” according to Mask and Bauble’s official webpage.

DBMOAF will feature several different performances along with Roots. A performance by Ballet Folklórico, Georgetown’s Mexican dance community, along with a reading of Diagnos-Mis by Vanessa Chapoy (COL ’18) will accompany it on the 14th and the 18th. A performance by GU Harmony, a Georgetown all-female a cappella group, along with a reading of Evelyne by alumna Claire Derriennic (COL ’17) will accompany it on the 15th and 16th. The show on the 17th will feature CORPUS, Georgetown’s spoken word/poetry community, and a talkback with Devika Ranjan herself. Tickets are $12 for General Admission and $8 for students.
