Awaria

Sometimes, the best things come in small packages, and Awaria is proof of that. This charming little sapphic indie game, released in December by Polish solo developer Vanripper, feels like stumbling upon a secret treasure chest—unexpected and utterly delightful.

The gameplay is simple but satisfying: collect parts to fix constantly malfunctioning engines while avoiding the attacks of various ghostly enemies. The puzzles strike just the right balance between tricky and fun, and every solved challenge feels like a tiny victory parade. If you’ve got a couple of hours to spare and want to experience something splendidly whimsical, Awaria should be at the top of your list.

The art style is absolutely adorable. Everything looks like it was doodled on a rainy afternoon, with nostalgically pixelated designs and pops of playful color. It’s the kind of aesthetic that makes you smile the entire time you’re playing. And don’t forget the soundtrack—it’s a cheerful little earworm that you’ll find yourself humming for days.

What truly makes Awaria shine, though, is its personality. The game doesn’t try to be overly complicated or overwhelming. Instead, it focuses on creating a cozy, inviting experience in which you can lose yourself. The pressure of the fast-paced puzzles is balanced with the in-game character interactions: Once you’ve fixed enough engines in a level, you’re rewarded with the chance to interact with your ghost girl enemies, learn about their histories and identities, and—if you’re lucky—give them a kiss.

In a gaming world full of massive adventures that demand dozens of hours, Awaria is a refreshing change of pace—a bite-sized game that packs a big punch. If you’re looking for something sweet, lively, and just the right amount of quirky, give Awaria a try. It’s short, snappy, and absolutely worth your time.
