“1000 Blunts” by Hippie Sabotage
I don’t know any other way to describe “1000 Blunts” except for chill. If it isn’t on a lofi beats playlist already, it deserves to be. Whenever you are in need of a mellow, relaxing song, “1000 Blunts” is the way to go.
“Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood
“Before He Cheats” is by far Carrie Underwood’s most popular song, as deserved. It is the ultimate break-up power ballad, as it describes the revenge Underwood takes on her unfaithful boyfriend while she completely destroys his beloved car. The song is so good it makes me mad about a cheating ex-boyfriend I never had.
“SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY Remix” by Amaarae (feat. Kali Uchis and Moliy)
Full of “bad b**** energy,” per Spotify, Amaarae’s September release is becoming a viral audio on TikTok and only keeps rising on the Global Spotify charts. If you've yet to listen, I'd highly recommend starting.
“All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)” by Taylor Swift
After losing the ownership of her masters to Scooter Braun, Taylor Swift decided to re-record her lost albums to regain the rights. Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version) this November and included a 10-minute version of the incomparable, fan-favorite track “All Too Well.” The Swifties have not known peace since.
“Communication Breakdown” by Led Zeppelin
Robert Plant’s astounding vocal range and Jimmy Page’s guitarist skills are as amazing as ever in this track from Led Zeppelin’s self-titled 1969 album. It's quite the hidden gem in the iconic band’s discography.
"Georgia" by Phoebe Bridgers
The range of Phoebe Bridgers’ voice is demonstrated perfectly in this song. “Georgia” begins with minimal instruments and Bridgers singing in a softer voice. The slow build throughout the rest of the song then leads to a powerful, melancholic, ballad-like section with a multitude of instruments. It always leaves me heart-wrenched.
“New Light” by John Mayer
“New Light,” Mayer’s most popular song on Spotify, is simply a good vibe with smooth guitar riffs and a groovy 80s feel. Accompanying the feel-good track is a comically low-budget music video that Mayer filmed at a nearby Bar Mitzvah/Birthday video producing company.
"777" by Silk Sonic
The iconic R&B duo of Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars released their debut album in November. Aside from their hit single “Leave the Door Open,” the track “777” has quickly become a fan favorite. The song describes Mars and .Paak winning big at a Las Vegas casino, as the name suggests.
“The Sprawl” by Sonic Youth
The 7:42 minute angst-filled song is dominated by instrumentals, keeping with Sonic Youth’s theme of utilizing instrumentation to convey meaning. Not my personal favorite, but the band is truly talented in composing and instrumentation.
“Someday” by The Strokes
The Strokes maintain such a unique sound throughout their entire discography. “Someday” is the second most popular song on their debut album Is This It, second only to their iconic “Last Nite.” This track encapsulates pretty much anything and everything that The Strokes have made.
“Sad Beautiful Tragic (Taylor’s Version)” by Taylor Swift
Telling the story of lost love, Swift depicts a relationship at once magical yet painful. After two Taylor songs were included on this list, it is clear Hoyas were hit hard by Red (Taylor’s Version). Georgetown Swifties, are you okay?
“Twerkulator” by City Girls
After gaining a lot of popularity from a viral TikTok dance, “Twerkulator” is now featured on numerous feel-good Rap and R&B playlists on Spotify. City Girls truly know how to make their listeners get up and bust a move.
