Ambar Lucid

Despite being a fan of her work for over five years now, Ambar Lucid remains continuously and unrighteously slept on. Lucid has been creating music since she was five years old, releasing her first singles in 2018, her first EP, Dreaming Lucid, in 2019, and her album Garden of Lucid the following year. A 23-year-old  Mexican-Dominican hailing from New Jersey, Lucid is the “bilingual indie fairy princess” everyone must listen to. She blends Spanish and English lyrics into silky smooth psychedelic melodies, her dreamy voice leaving the listener grasping for more. She cites inspiration from Kali Uchis and Willow, whose influences can easily be identified in her work, from her vocal style to the authenticity of her music. To get a sense of her discography, listeners should start off with “A letter to my younger self.” This was Lucid’s first song at 16, where she gives a past version of herself advice and consolation that her dreams are attainable and that everything will be okay. The wisdom and strength in her voice carry across the song, convincing everyone who hears it to truly believe her when she sings, “Ya no quiero que llores / The universe is gonna give you muchas flores.” Moving into Garden of Lucid, “Fantasmas” and “Questioning My Mind” contain elegant yet upbeat rhythms, perfect for an early morning walk to class. Outside of her music, Lucid expresses herself through playful style and makeup as an outlet for her femininity and sexuality. Through her music and lifestyle, Lucid serves as an unapologetic role model for how to love yourself before giving yourself to others. As Lucid sings in “Universe,” “I belong to the universe, I belong to the universe / I don't belong to anyone else, no.”
